OUR BELIEFS
We believe The Bible is completely true and is relevant for every generation and circumstance of life. We stand by the tenant that the Bible is indeed God's Word communicated directly to the biblical writers who wrote precisely what God intended. The Bible spoke to those who lived in the past and continues to speak to us today. The Word of God is our final authority on faith and conduct (2 Timothy 3:16, 17).
We believe in one God, the Creator of all things, eternally existing in three Persons, in a threefold relationship, that of Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Luke 3:22; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14). |
We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary (Luke 1:35), is God incarnate (John 1:14), and is God in bodily form (Hebrews 1:8; Colossians 2:6 & 9).
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins (the sins of all men) according to the Scripture as a substitutionary sacrifice (2 Corinthians 5:21), and that all who believe in Him are freely justified (Romans 5:1) and stand before God accepted in the character and merit of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:5-7).
|
We believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:3, 4), in His ascension into heaven (Acts 1:9), and that in His present life, He is the Head of the church (Ephesians 5:23), the Lord of the individual believer (Ephesians 2:10), the High Priest over the house of God (Hebrews 4:14, 15), and the Advocate for the family of God (1 John 2:1).
We believe in the personal return of Jesus Christ (Acts 1:11; Titus 2:13) to receive His bride, the true church (Revelation 19:7, 8).
We believe in the personal return of Jesus Christ (Acts 1:11; Titus 2:13) to receive His bride, the true church (Revelation 19:7, 8).
We believe that all who by faith receive the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior are born again of the Holy Spirit (John 3:5). The Holy Spirit convicts of sin (John 16:8-11), baptizes (1 Corinthians 12:13), teaches (John 14:26), indwells (1 Corinthians 6:19, 20), and produces fruit (godly character qualities) (Galatians 5:22, 23) in all who live by faith in Him.
We believe mankind was directly created by God in His image (Genesis 1:26-28). Because of Adam and Eve’s direct disobedience to the clear command of God (Genesis 3), every person on the face of the earth is spiritually dead (separated from God) (Romans 5:12). Each person has inherited a sinful, corrupt human nature (Romans 3:23) and must receive Jesus Christ as Savior for their salvation (Acts 4:10-12).

We believe in salvation by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9), that salvation is the free gift of God (Romans 3:23; 6:23), not merited by any virtue or good works of man (Titus 3:5), received solely by personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior (John 3:16; Acts 16:30-31), and apart from the Lord Jesus Christ there is no possible salvation (John 14:6; Acts 4:12).

OUR LEADERS
Nick Jaymes, Senior Pastor
Pastor Nick Jaymes grew up in a military home and moved around the states for much of his young life. When he was 16, God called him to go into full time ministry instead of following his desire to join the Air Force. Faithful to that calling, he attended four years at God's Bible School and College in Cincinnati, graduating with a degree in Ministerial Education, with a minor in Pastoral Ministries. During that time, he served as a youth leader for two years, and pastored Morning View United Methodist Church for almost two years.
Today, Pastor Nick is a passionate preacher, teacher, and disciple-maker who is faithful to help others understand and live out God's Word. Outside of speaking, his passion is to guide the church in being and accomplishing all that God wants His church to be. He is married to Jacinda Jaymes and has two beautiful daughters.

Mark Marriott, Associate Pastor and Director of NextGen Ministries
Pastor Mark was born in Findlay, Ohio. He grew up playing baseball and running around the block where he grew up with his friends. At the age of 14, God saved him and changed his life. After graduating high school, Mark went to God’s Bible School and College where he pursued a B.A. in Pastoral Ministry. God called Mark back home to serve in his hometown church, Findlay Bible Methodist, as youth pastor. He served there for 15 years. During this time, he graduated college, met his wife, Jaleesa, and had two beautiful daughters.
Pastor Mark enjoys serving the church, playing frisbee golf in his spare time and taking his wife and daughters on adventures such as hiking, biking, and spending time together.

OUR CONGREGATION
Oakland Christian Church has seen significant change and growth over the years. Our congregation is increasingly diverse, representing many different faith backgrounds and some who are new to knowing Jesus. Our available ministries cater to attendees of all ages, from our littlest believers ready to learn more about their Savior, to adults, eager to share what they have learned through their faith walk, and everyone in between.
One thing we all share is love for our church family, and we are always excited to welcome newcomers into our church home! |
Most of our members reside in Carroll, Clinton, and Howard counties. However, we have many people who travel from much further to be a part of our worship and activities. Our current Sunday attendance averages over 125 people. We have just expanded our worship space to accommodate this number and more, comfortably.
Our activities are for everyone! We have many friends who visit occasionally, or just come for the fellowship activities or Bible studies. Maybe you already have a church home, or you aren't ready to take that step; check out our events page and come visit for some fellowship and fun! Everyone is welcome. |
OUR HISTORY
Oakland Christian Church is an independent church (not affiliated with any denomination) with a history dating back to 1840. We were one of the first churches established in Howard County and for many years, shared a church building with a small group of Methodists. In 1887 that building (known as Sugar Grove) burned and was never rebuilt. Our ancestors relocated to our current site and began to worship in a tiny brick structure which was completed in 1888. The church was named Oakland Christian Church because of the many oak trees which surrounded it. The church building has been updated and enlarged several times throughout the past 130 years.
In 2022, we continued our journey with another expansion, upon the stirring of the Holy Spirit, and with fervent prayer, but we continue our independent status and proud history.
